CBNO begins with a detail. Behind it stands Ilias, a young creator from the southern edge of Antwerp, with one quiet ambition: to give the city's artistic and fashion heritage a new voice. Not by designing clothes, but by finishing them, returning value to the detail and meaning to subtlety.
HERITAGE IN THE BLOODLINE
Ilias grew up in a family that built things. Both grandfathers came from Morocco. One ran a clothing business, the other a career in real estate. Creativity and enterprise were simply part of the house.
So was art. He learned the piano at home, trained in the discipline of martial arts, and spent time in the raw energy of music studios. Later, in secondary school, he studied alongside students of audiovisual and fine arts. That world sharpened his eye and drew him toward abstraction and minimalism, and toward a single belief that still guides CBNO: real art needs no explanation. It is felt.
THE GEOMETRY OF DISCIPLINE
CBNO grew from a fascination with what Antwerp once was. In the 1980s, six designers from its Royal Academy of Fine Arts, the Antwerp Six, placed the city on the world's fashion map. Ilias felt that thread had been left to fade. His ambition was never to imitate Paris or Milan, but to give Antwerp a visual language of its own again.
That language is deliberately quiet. Its palette is monochrome: black, white, gradient grey. Its structure draws on the repetitive, rhythmic geometry of Fez. Its mark, a fleur-de-lis stripped to its essence, carries both: heritage and restraint, in a single line.
THE SENTINEL
The Dobermann is CBNO's emblem: authority without noise, understood without a word. Tall, composed, certain. The same qualities the brand is built on.
That presence now has a second form. The Dobermann stands as the Sentinel of CBNO | TEC, guarding the encryption behind each watch's Web3 authentication. Quiet strength, watching over its digital provenance and securing its legacy on the blockchain.
A CONNECTION BETWEEN WORLDS
The same thinking shapes the brand's art. A large piece, commissioned from a cousin Ilias has known since childhood and inspired by Michelangelo, shows two hands: one wrist wearing a watch, the CBNO emblem suspended between them. Classical and contemporary, heritage and reinvention, held in a single image.
CBNO was never built as a simple commercial venture. It is a way to honour a family's heritage, and a reminder that craft and design still belong to Antwerp. Where elegance doesn't shout, but whispers. Where the detail matters again.
